A Behind-The-Scenes Glimpse Into How Design Within Reach Creates Images for Its Products

Behind-the-scenes content is some of the most enjoyable and informative to consume in my opinion.  I love seeing how other photographers go about their business and find this is a great way to quickly pick up new ways of working that I may be able to incorporate into my own work.

Along those lines, everyone’s favorite modern furniture distributor, Design Within Reach, created a short time-lapse film showcasing how they go about creating their product imagery from the ground up.  The final image features several of DWR’s products, but we begin with the team clearing out the room completely and building up the final composition step-by-step.  It’s fun to see just how many people are involved in a shoot like this, each bringing their own expertise to the table.  It looks to be about a dozen people all working collaboratively to help craft the best image possible. 

I liked seeing how they were able to showcase the chandelier by temporarily connecting it to a roller stand as well as the use of printed proofs throughout the photoshoot.  When this many people are involved, you’d better make sure you get it right on the spot!

These types of videos can be eye-openers for clients who underestimate the amount of effort that goes into creating images of the highest quality.  It is a great way to demonstrate the value of what we do.
