Canon Rumored To Produce the Widest Angle Tilt-Shift Lens Ever, With Autofocus for Its RF Mount Cameras
If there’s anything that’s going to make me switch over fully to a Canon mirrorless system, it’s probably going to be the lenses. The latest rumors for suggest some incredible lenses are on the way for architectural photographers.
It seems that many of us can’t wait till this nightmare of a year is over. I know I can’t wait till 2021, especially if these latest rumors are true. Canon Rumors, recently posted up new information about what lenses we could expect to see next year. Among the long list, there is a 14mm TS-R f/4.0L and a TS-R 24mm f/3.5L that immediately caught my attention. Currently, the widest tilt-shift lens on the market is the TS-E 17mm f/4.0L from Canon. A 14mm lens would be noticeably wider, especially when you take into account the shift features.
Not only that, these new tilt shift lenses are rumored to be autofocus lenses, which is utterly incredible. If this is true, these types of lenses would be the best wide-angle prime lenses ever produced. Tilt-shift lenses offer far more effective and useful features to standard prime lenses and the addition of autofocus makes them incredible.
For many architectural photographers, this may not provide a great deal of benefit, however, I still think having autofocus in these lenses can help speed up workflow. Having said that, for video shooters, this could be a Godsend. That perspective control coupled with the incredible dual pixel autofocus from Canon, would be the best combination for many filmmakers. The deep downside is that I can only imagine the ridiculous price points these lenses will sit at, upon initial release.

With the potential of a high resolution mirrorless camera coming soon from Canon, I imagine that the RF system will quickly become the best system for many architectural photographers.
