SmallRig and Potato Jet Have Presented a New and Unconventional Tripod

Although this intriguing new tripod was designed with video creators in mind, it may also interest architectural photographers! This SmallRig x Potato Jet collaboration dubbed the “Tribex Hydraulic Carbon Fiber Tripod” stands out for its very fast and simple leg extension and leveling mechanism. Its carbon fiber legs are extendable via a single clutch – the X-Clutch. With a single press-and-hold action one may quickly adjust all three legs, and even level the base while doing so. Tribex Hydraulic Carbon Fiber Tripod Kit is very agile and can quickly be set to any location or height.

It features the patented X-Clutch hydraulic single-action setup technology along with a self-locking system of carbon fiber legs. Creators squeeze the clutch to find their preferred height and position, then release the clutch, and the hydraulic system automatically locks itself, thereby facilitating creators’ work and setting a new standard in convenience and efficiency. The kit includes a compact fluid head with up to 5kg of counterbalance, suitable for small and medium-sized movie cameras. Stepless damping enables smooth tilting and panning to meet creators’ needs for camera movement. The tripod, weighing 3.4 kg, has a maximum height of 168 cm with a center column raised and locked via a flip lock.

We don’t know the price of this unique product yet. Preorders for the initial batch of 500 units will begin in early July. SmallRig is currently providing a 20% discount to early adopters. The design looks intriguing in the materials we can see online, but it will be interesting to see how it performs in practice. For architectural photography, stability and precision are often more important than speed, but the ability to quickly change camera height without flipping tabs or twisting locks while juggling gear is very compelling. I am looking forward to seeing the first tests conducted by photographers with the Tribex tripod.
